Built in 1832, Whitstable Harbour became the first harbour in England to be served by a railway, the famous ‘Crab and Winkle Line’, constructed by the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway Company. Whitstable’s Crab and Winkle line was also the first railway in the World to have a steam-drawn passenger train, the ‘Invicta’ locomotive.

Whitstable is one of the few places that still has a working harbour. Experience the sights, sounds and smells (!) of Whitstable’s fully working harbour and learn more about it by looking at the numerous information boards dotted around. If you get the opportunity, take a trip aboard the ‘Greta’, skippered by Steve Norris. The Greta spends the sailing season (April-October) based at the South Quay inside Whitstable Harbour.
