Take a stroll along the cliff-top lawns of Tankerton Slopes and soak in the wonderful views of the sea for miles around. From this unique vantage point you can see the remains of the Maunsell Sea Forts; built during World War II and set in juxtaposition to the modern wind farms.
At low tide a narrow strip of shingle is revealed, known as ‘The Street’. Legend has it that ‘The Street’ was a causeway for unloading cargo in Roman times when the coastline was much further out. Other local tales talk of a man who fell in love with a mermaid and built ‘The Street’ to go and see her.
If you get the chance, walk to the end of ‘The Street’ and use this opportunity to take some impressive photos.
